Recap: In the first tip, we took a look at the importance of having to clear owed fasts before Ramadan comes.
2. Taking advantage of all optional fasts till Ramadan begins
Optional fasts are recommended and are a great boost for Muslims wishing to get into shape for Ramadan. Available opportunities exists in Monday and Thursday fasts and the white days (ay-yaam al beed) 13 – 15th of the month of Sha’baan.
It was narrated by Aaisha (may Allah be pleased with her,) she said: “Rasool (may Allah exalt his mention) used to fast until we said; he will not break his fast …. I never saw Rasool (SAW) complete a month of fasting except Ramadan, and I never saw him fast more in any month than Sha’baan.”
Narrated by Al Bukhari (1868) and Muslim (1156)
You may also refer to hadith narrated by al – Nasaa’I (2357) narrated by Usaamah Ibn Zayd and classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Nasaa’i.
What better way to prepare for fasting by fasting?
As I write today (3rd Shaban, a Thursday) opportunities left to undertake optional fasts are as follows; four Mondays 7th – 14th – 21st – 28th Shaban, and three Thursdays 10th, 17th, 24th.
Interestingly, the white days fast starts from Sunday – Tuesday (13th – 15th) so one of the days is already a Monday. These are days you can fast in order to brace up for Ramadan proper insha Allah.
Always bear this in mind: "Ramadan Starts LONG before it comes, PREPARE!"
